About Mediation
Mediation is a voluntary,
confidential and 'without prejudice' process
which involves an independent and objective person,
the mediator,
assisting parties who are in dispute to reach
agreement. It is
non-binding but can result in a legally binding
agreement if all the
parties wish it, for example in order to bring court
proceedings to an
end. Accredited mediators have all received formal
training in
mediation techniques, and all WCM mediators are
committed to
continuing training and development of their skills.

Mediation can be used in a wide
variety of situations from neighbour
disputes to substantial commercial claims,
encompassing property
issues, inheritance matters, employment claims and
many others.
Mediation can offer a speedier and
cheaper alternative to taking a
dispute through the courts and is flexible in terms
of what an
agreement can cover. It can also be used before
disputes have
escalated to a threat of court action. WCM can assist with all types of
mediation apart from family mediation.
